If there is any significant damage to the outside of the unit, this is something that needs to be addressed. The next thing to do is to turn the unit on and look for any signs that something may be broken. The first thing you want to look for is smoke coming from the machine. This can mean that the motor is broken or another component needs to be replaced. You’ll also want to listen for any rattling that’s going on. If there is a rattle, there may be a part that is loose that needs to be tightened. The last thing you’ll want to do is pull off the lid to see if any foreign objects have found their way into your HVAC unit.
